Metric

I saw Metric at IcelandAirwaves in 2006. Well... I thought this Canadian pop/rock band was great. The vocalist/synthesist cool and beautiful and the rest of the band... OK I admit it... I didn't really notice them... I was so mesmerized by the awesome Emily Haines.

My friends who were with met said she seemed more like a self-centered camera-lover! Yeah! I said... shes a pop-goddess!!!

But enough about glorifying her. What about the music? This is called indie-synth-Pop/Rock... yeah whatever... you could probably find some Disco there too or even Ska if you are willing.

Their latest album is Live It Out from 2005 which was very well received and critically-celebrated and some of the songs from that album have been used in films and TV shows. But who gives a fuck... I like the music and here it is:

(You can listen to it on their official site:) http://www.ilovemetric.com/

Eurovison Song Contest

I heard Eric Hawk will represent Iceland in Helsinki... well that's just great, Although the song is hardly great, nor even good. But Eric Hawk is cool and can go far on his red locks alone. Just see him!

But here in Sweden the pre-selection of the Melodifestival is still going on. My bets are on Ark and their great great great The Worrying Kind:

The Ark they are called you can visit their home page here

http://www.thearkworld.com/

Funny, come to think of it. But Eric Hawk (Eirikur Hauksson) was a singer for the Heavy Metal band Artch. I saw them in Kaplakriki in summer 1991. Ark - Artch. Oh well But yes - not to forget that Eric Hawk was one of the singers in the first Icelandic number in Eurovision. This was in 1986 and I watched it on the black&white tv-set we had in my home at that time. Great. Here it is.

Now I promise not to talk about Eurovision Song Contest again...

...until May!

Beirut

Sure you've heard about Beirut! Zach Condon's (one man) band. If not - then listen.

Sounds like an Balkan gypsy orchestra but it is actually a one man's project (well, obviously with some help from others). Zach is from Santa Fe, New Mexico in the States... a bit far from the Balkans. But: Even if you hate Balkan gypsy music, I'm sure you'll find something intriguing about this powerful, joyful, sad... I guess the word "angurvær" says it completely... music.

Beirut released two albums last year, Gulag Orkestar and Lon Gisland. The first one is great, I simply have not heard the later one... why, I have no clue!

But of course it's better to just listen than read my b***shit:

Skakkamanage

OK! From now on I will devote this blog to music. Music that I like and that I like to tell other people about. This will later be come: Spartakus - the music blog of the Internet. Or something like that!

Lab of love Alright: First of all I want to introduce you to my friends in Skakkamanage. At the moment my favorite concert-band and their new cd Lab of love is constantly circling in my cd-player.

So what is this band with this strange name? hmmm... A little big band with low-key profile but grand in so many ways. Sure, their cd is good but they are FANTCK* on stage!

But let them speak for themselves:
Reporter [MP3, 4,2mb, 192kbps]

i ce land

Oh boy did I have a blast in C'hagen. I than Christian and Louise and Margrethe for the hospitality and fun, Védís and Mikael and Hjördís for the party, Maja and Martin for the joy, Siggi and Bjarki for the greatness and all the ice-people at Solbakken.

I wont thank the idiot who stole my handbag at Kastrup. May you rot in hell...
